Electrical Industry Jobs Survey Final Report
On 19 May 2010, the Victorian branch of the Electrical Trades Union (ETU) requested the EPIC Industry Training Board conduct a comprehensive job
survey to identify the recruitment, retainment and retrenchment of electrical workers for the period; January 2006 to December 2011.
The primary aim of the ETU initiated job survey was to provide industry stakeholders with a clearer picture of the Electrotechnology industrial landscape, with respect to two often asked questions; is the sector experiencing a high degree of;
• job shortage for skilled electrical workers, or
• is there in fact a shortage of skilled labour.
To ensure the job survey met the ETU outcomes, the EPIC ITB developed six surveys which were specifically targeted at those stakeholders that directly influence work availability and the subsequent employment and training of electrical workers. The surveys themselves were structured so that workers, employers, sole traders, apprentices and RTOs could provide input and valuable industry related information for the 18 month period prior to the Global Financial Crisis (GFC), the 12-18 month period during the GFC, and the 12-18 months post GFC.
