ITAB Projects to Stimulate Training Demand
In 2009, EPIC ITB submitted ten (10) projects to Skills Victoria focusing on stimulate training demand within the various industry sectors that fall within the coverage of EPIC ITB. From the ten submissions, four of the projects were successful and commenced in November/December 2009:
Qualifications for the ICT Help Desk and Computer Support Industry
The project aims to credential participants with the Certificate III in IT Client Support (ICA30105) qualification through completing an ITIL foundation certification, RPL and providing any further gap training that may be required.
An innovative marketing campaign will be used to encourage employers to provide professional development for unqualified employees. The project will seek to target 48 enrolments and will be completed by end of June 2010.
The project will be undertaken by Victoria University on behalf of EPIC ITB.

Electrician to Lineworker
The aim of the project is to create a training program that will lead to an alternative pathway into the lineworker trade for workers who are currently qualified as electricians. The Electrician to Lineworker training program will be 2 years in duration, with RPL/RCC given to each learner.
The project will seek to target 50 placements to undertake the Certificate III in ESI – Distribution (UET30206).
The project will be undertaken by EPIC ITB in conjunction with industry specialists from Jemena, ETU, GippsTAFE Energy Training Centre, EEIT, Citipower/Powercor, SP-Ausnet.

Stimulate Demand for Dual Trade Electrical Instrument Technicians
The aim of the project is to stimulate the uptake of apprentice and non-apprentice ‘dual trade’ Electrical/Instrument training in the automotive, aviation, aerospace, defence, food, ICT, science, biotechnology, water and energy sectors. Industry engagement will commence in early 2010 to encourage employers in these sectors to employ Electrical-Instrument apprentices and/or cross train currently employed electricians as Electrical-Instrument dual-trade persons. The target number of enrolments planned for this project is 50 placements in the Certificate IV in Electrical-Instrumentation (UEE40407) qualification.
The project will be completed in November 2011 and will be undertaken by RMIT on behalf of EPIC ITB.

Certification of the Victorian Technical Workforce for the NBN Rollout
The project will provide up to 200 Victorian technical employees in the Telecommunications industry with the opportunity to obtain Certificate 3 and 4 qualifications to prepare them for the National Broadband Network (NBN) rollout in Victoria. The targeted qualifications are:

Certificate III Telecommunications

Certificate III Telecommunications Access and Associated Services

Certificate III Data and Voice Communications; and

Certificate IV Telecommunications Engineering
Invitations will be forwarded to Victorian cablers registered with the TITAB ACRS, who already have Certificate II competencies and/or a Certificate II qualification inviting them to participate in the project.
The project will be undertaken by CITT on behalf of EPIC ITB and will be completed by April 2011.
